A few months ago, Target store caught my attention when they announced that their product brand line, called Simply Balanced, will no longer contain any genetically modified organisms in them by the end of 2014.  Yayyyy!!!  This is GREAT NEWS!  Stores are listening to their customers.

All Simply Balanced brand products do not contain any of the following ingredients:

Simply Balanced products are made with simple, recognizable ingredients.  There are no trans fats, avoid high fructose corn syrup, are not overladen with sodium, is free of artificial flavors, colors, MSG, or preservatives.   Many of the Simply Balanced products provide nutrition benefits naturally, such as whole grains, fiber, Omega-3s or a serving of fruits and vegetables.  While there are over 250 products under the Simply Balanced line, they do carry gluten-free products, such as rice, pastas, and tortilla chips.

Simply Balanced meat and poultry products come from animals raised without antibiotics or given added hormones.  Also, Simply Balanced milk products found in the dairy case, such as fluid milk and yogurt, are from animals not treated with synthetic rBST.  What’s more, the products are certified Kosher and are labeled as such.

Many of the Simply Balance products are organic, called Simply Balanced Organic.  Simply Balanced Organic is free of synthetic pesticides and without chemical fertilizers and carry the USDA Organic seal.  Simply Balanced organic products include milk, eggs, tea, pasta, pasta sauce, frozen fruits and vegetables, juice and soups.  To identify Simply Balanced organic products, look for the USDA organic seal on the front of the package and the word “organic” in the product name.

Target is definitely a store to keep in mind when shopping for organic and Non-GMO products!

Just curious about the Southwestern style black bean soup that states no added Msg. And they don’t list all the ingredients spices is listed. So I was wondering by saying ” no added msg ” instead of no msg is there some hidden within the spices?

    Thank you,
    Karen

      Hi Karen,

I checked out the label of that particular soup and I am glad to say that I am very comfortable with eating this line of foods. The Simply Balanced products, including Organic, do NOT contain MSG or other harmful ingredients. I understand your concern about “other spices” listed and that does put a question in my mind as to what it is. But it being at the end of the ingredient’s list, whatever that mix of spices is, it’s very negligible. Ingredient’s list always put the most amount of an ingredient toward the beginning of the label. It is my opinion that Simply Balanced line is very safe to eat and I’m very happy with it. I don’t believe the “other spices” is a mix of something unhealthy.

Another thing that stands out to me is the fact that the soup containers are in the cardboard container. HUGE plus!!! Not many soups, organic or not, come in that container, it’s very hard to fine. I don’t like cans because of the BPA that leaches out from the can to the soups, especially if the product is acidic, such as tomato based, then the leaching of the chemicals in the can, including BPA is much faster and more harsh. The fact that Target added that container to the soup line speaks volumes to me about the company.

In essence, enjoy your Simply Balanced products 🙂
